Most Indian homes are familiar with the practice of an age old, time-tested Granny’s method of skin detox, right from the time we were babies. The base ingredients – besan (gram flour) and haldi (turmeric) are so much a part of traditional skin care routine that they continue to find place as the base ingredients of popular commercial ‘herbal’ skin care cosmetics.

This is how you can do it:
- Apply warm oil – preferably sesame oil – liberally all over your body.
- Apply a paste of chick pea flour or green gram flour with a pinch of turmeric - all over - to coat your oiled body with a thick yellow cover.
- You may add milk or milk cream in making the paste - to soften your skin, or even add drops of lime juice to the paste - to brighten the skin.
- Wait for the flour paste to thicken and dry out a bit.
- Slough off the paste with your palm. The hardened paste will crumble and peel off quite easily from your oiled body.
- You will be surprised to see the darkened colour of the sloughed off paste. It will make you feel instantly cleansed and exfoliated.
- This method is also considered a very effective home remedy for hair removal.
