Traditional Skin Exfoliation

B Positive Content Team

Most Indian homes are familiar with the practice of an age old, time-tested Granny’s method of skin detox, right from the time we were babies. The base ingredients – besan (gram flour) and haldi (turmeric) are so much a part of traditional skin care routine that they continue to find place as the base ingredients of popular commercial ‘herbal’ skin care cosmetics.

This is how you can do it:
  1. Apply warm oil – preferably sesame oil – liberally all over your body.
  2. Apply a paste of chick pea flour or green gram flour with a pinch of turmeric - all over - to coat your oiled body with a thick yellow cover.
  3. You may add milk or milk cream in making the paste - to soften your skin, or even add drops of lime juice to the paste - to brighten the skin.
  4. Wait for the flour paste to thicken and dry out a bit.
  5. Slough off the paste with your palm. The hardened paste will crumble and peel off quite easily from your oiled body.
  6. You will be surprised to see the darkened colour of the sloughed off paste. It will make you feel instantly cleansed and exfoliated.
  7. This method is also considered a very effective home remedy for hair removal.
